Retro ’80s Christmas Music

I’ll admit it … I love music from the 1980s. And there were some pretty spiffy Christmas songs that came out of that decade, too. Here are some I found on YouTube.

Do They Know It’s Christmas?

There were two major charity songs that came out of the 1980s: “We Are the World,” the American effort, and “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”, the British Effort. Although some of the lyrics are just plain silly, I liked the music and sing-along-ability of “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” better.

Last Christmas

This Christmas song came off Wham!’s second album, which also included “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go”. I love that album and many of the tracks are great fun to sing along with. “Last Christmas” doesn’t disappoint.

Jingle Bell Rock

This is one of my favorite Christmas songs and Hall & Oates cover of it not only keeps up the fun be-bop rhythm but also showcases Daryl Hall’s vocal flexibility. Plus the video is just plain fun.

I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus

John Cougar Mellencamp’s cover of this clever little Christmas song is my absolute favorite. It is so fun and danceable. John really makes “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus” his own.

Christmas In Hollis

What review of 1980s Christmas music could leave out Run DMC. This rap/hip-hop band performed some of the best accessible rap music of the decade.
